A big update for Rainbow Six Siege is going live this week, bringing a new feature that will smooth out unbalanced teams so you won’t have to suffer through a full match a teammate drops. Match Cancellation will be live in the Year 5 Season 2.1 (Y5S2.1) update.

As detailed in Ubisoft’s patch notes, match cancellation lets players vote to end the current Ranked match if team sizes are unbalanced due to some issue that other players couldn’t help–for example, players on one team disconnecting in the first round. During the prep phase, the incomplete team will get to vote and a majority opinion will cancel the match. When a match is canceled in this way, it won’t impact your rank.

Ubisoft does caution, though, that you’ll still get an abandon penalty for leaving an ongoing Ranked match, and the more you do it, the worse penalties will get. That will also apply if you leave in the middle of a Match Cancellation vote, so make sure you wait until the vote is complete and the game registers as canceled.
