Following the recent formation of a White House Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence, debate is heating up around the administration’s appropriate response toward regulating AI.
Intel’s Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Artificial Intelligence Naveen Rao opens a conversation about the role of government in shaping the future of AI. Rao will set the scene before introducing panelists including: Walter Copan, undersecretary of commerce for Standards and Technology, and director, National Institute of Standards and Technology; Rep. John Delaney (D-Md.), co-chair, Al Caucus; Dean Garfield, president and CEO, the Information Technology Council; Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas); and Rashida Richardson, director, Policy Research, AI Now Institute, NYU. The session, moderated by POLITICO Pro Senior Technology Reporter Nancy Scola, will explore the tensions and opportunities surrounding this complex issue to understand if a consensus could be reached on the government’s role in AI – what is too much and what is too little?
