News: The new Tomb Raider movie trailer looks miles better than the old ones
The Tomb Raider movie, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, has just unveiled its first trailer. From first impressions it looks like it’ll (at least partially) lift some of its story from the rebooted Tomb Raider game series, which isn’t a bad thing at all. I only have one question: does it make you want to ‘protect her’?
The trailer begins with a series of dramatic flashbacks, and Lara Croft decides that she wants to continue her father’s treasure hunting legacy. Lara returns after a sabbatical somewhere or other, and decides that she’s going to hunt for the treasure that’d eluded her father before his untimely demise. Heck, she may even save the world as we know it at the same time; she’s a badass like that, our Lara.
Cue plenty of sequences featuring Lara jumping off a ship like a superhero, running across the wing of a destroyed plane, watching videos on a camcorder, and jogging through a jungle, bow in tow. In one part of the trailer, I even found myself wanting to click in the L3 button to make her sprint through a tunnel, before she slid under a swinging spiked trap. Unfortunately, when Lara washes ashore on a strange beach, I couldn’t scramble away from the swinging rifle butt that knocks her out, and she’s taken captive by Walton Goggins. Sorry, Lara.
